David graduated in medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 1984 and obtained a Diploma in Genitourinary Medicine in 1988 before migrating to Australia in 1991.

David is a sexual health physician and obtained his specialist qualification, the Fellowship of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine in 2006.

He has worked at Gold Coast Sexual Health Clinic, Brisbane Sexual Health Clinic, the AIDS Medical Unit and Family Planning Queensland. From 1994-2014, David was a senior medical officer at PASH (Princess Alexandra Sexual Health).

leadership

David was secretary (1992-1996) & president (2003-2006) of the sexual health society of Queensland. He was a member of the organising committee of the 1994 Australasian sexual health conference on the Gold Coast and Chair of the 2009 conference in Brisbane. From 2009-2013, David was a member of the Chapter Committee of the Australasian Chapter of Sexual Health Medicine.

research

David was a principal investigator in a phase 1b multicentre study of a therapeutic vaccine for genital warts in 2006-2008.

Sponsored by Prof Ian Frazer of University of Queensland Diamantina Institute, the study findings were presented at the 2009 Australasian sexual health conference in Brisbane and published in Human Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics in 2012.

education

David is interested in junior doctor training and from 2004-2014, he was involved in prevocational education at Princess Alexandra Hospital as a presenter, mentor and clinical supervisor. From 2008, David was a member, deputy chair and, in 2012, chair of the General Clinical Education Committee (GCEC) at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

David has provided undergraduate and postgraduate education on sexual health medicine to medical students (University of Queensland & Griffith University), interns, registrars, specialists and general practitioners.
